out and about - hiking the twin falls

seattle has so many great hikes within an hours drive.

last week while my parents were in town we decided to head into the Cascades for a hike on a lovely fall day.  Just off I-90 we pulled down into the woods near the town of North Bend.  within a few minutes of leaving the highway we were lucky enough to see elk nibbling at apples just off the road.

Baker, i can say, was not as happy as we were to see the big beauties.

twin falls hike is about 3 miles long and is wonderful way to wind your way from the river bed up into the hill side and stand on top of a beautiful waterfall.

Rainier and Baker came with us; everyone was happy to be out.

we took our time and made our way along the trail, taking the time to smell the damp ferns and appreciate our majestic setting.

i think my parents liked the hike and the views.

these are my awesome and totally cute parents.

more of them to come this week.
i wondered why JD and i don't get out more often to enjoy this beautiful place in which we live?
